Join us for an interactive taster session introducing you to our courses in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre. The session will be held in our dedicated studio spaces in the White Swan Building, where you'll get a sense of who our expert team are and how we work. You'll be given a theoretical concept or prompt to work with that you'll apply in a fun and instructive practical session, discovering how music, movement, text, voice and performance work together across various styles. We'll wrap up the session with a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

Join us for an interactive workshop where you'll experiment with basic animation techniques, using industry standard animation software like Maya and TVPaint. You'll get hands-on creating simple animation, with opportunities to meet our course team, find out more about the course and ask any questions you may have.

Join us for a fun, hands-on and informative session that will explore what life and study could look like for you at the Portsmouth School of Architecture, Art and Design.
Our expert course team will welcome you with a short talk that unpacks the Architecture and Interior Architecture and Design courses, their modules, distinctive qualities, and the opportunities open to you.
Next, you'll have a chance to explore our design studios and discover the wonders of architecture and interior architecture for yourself. You'll develop a design idea through modelmaking with staff and current students on hand to assist, and have the opportunity to visit our 3D workshop. This is a friendly and informal session where you can discuss your knowledge and expectations, and ask any questions you may have about studying at Portsmouth.

Join us for an opportunity to try out the exciting craft of 3D animation. This practical session led by our industry-experienced staff will introduce you to the tools and techniques in the most widely used industry software. You'll have the opportunity to create your very own 3D animations while meeting our course team and asking any questions you may have.

You'll have a chance to meet some of our passionate games team before getting a head start on your own game artist career, through a hands-on workshop using professional, industry-standard 3D sculpting software.

Working together, we'll review how to design and develop a functional prototype. We understand that applicants come with a wide range of backgrounds and levels of experience, so no prior knowledge or experience with specific platforms or languages is required. All the guidance, templates, and examples you need will be provided. Just bring your curiosity and creativity!

Dive into the creative process by transforming your ideas into hand-drawn animation and learning how to bring them to life using Adobe Animate and Wacom tablets. You’ll also get the chance to explore digital design practice through interactive media design, experimenting with industry-standard tools to shape engaging user experiences.
Throughout this immersive, hands-on session, you’ll be supported by academic staff and a current Creative Media Technologies student who will demonstrate techniques, share their own creative journey, and offer insight into the exciting career opportunities within the field.
We understand that applicants come with a wide range of backgrounds and levels of experience, so no prior knowledge is required. All the guidance, templates, and examples you need will be provided. Just bring your curiosity and creativity!

Join us for a tour of our impressive music studio facilities - from our Dolby ATMOS Studio to individual sound editing booths - before taking part in a mixing workshop using our 72 fader Neve Genesys Black G96 mixing console. In this hands-on session, we'll explore the various workflows possible in our studios, ranging from 'in the box' and 'on the console', as well as 'hybrid mixing' combining the two techniques, which has become a common approach in the industry. After the workshop, you'll join our teaching staff for a chance to ask any questions you may have about the course.

Meet members of the Creative Writing team, who are all novelists, poets, journalists and performers, as well as dedicated and experienced teachers, who will share their tips, tricks and techniques with you. Try out some of our writing workshop activities, on themes such as 'True Stories' and 'Telling Tales', and discover how you'll spend your time, drafting and crafting, dreaming up and polishing pieces of coursework, in our world of the imagination.

Join us for a hands-on 'drape and draw' workshop, led by our expert Fashion Design team. You'll begin by experimenting with different drawing equipment to create interesting marks, shapes and textures from a range of objects. You'll then explore draping, pleating and manipulating fabric onto a mannequin, focusing on various aspects of the body while taking your time and enjoying the creative process. This will all be brought to life through digital projection, where you'll get to see how your drawings inform ideas for textiles on the body and how this can inspire various shapes for fashion garments. You'll have a fun day of making, with opportunities to explore current student work and ask any questions you may have about studying at Portsmouth.

You'll have the opportunity to meet our expert course team, see our range of dedicated facilities, ask questions, and experiment with professional filmmaking kit in our studios.

In this session, you'll join members of the Journalism team for an interactive, fun and practical session engaging in some real-world journalism techniques. You'll have a chance to work with others to find stories in Portsmouth, interrogate social media for news stories and come up with your own content and headlines. And there will also be time to learn more about the three Journalism courses available and Global Communication and Media, with a Q&A session with the course team.

In this hands-on session, we'll first explore a few design processes and techniques such as idea creation, storyboarding, planning, testing, layout, selecting type, image and paper stock, before making an 'infinity card' from coloured paper. We'll be adding our own 4-stage message by tracing and drawing freehand onto the paper or using stencils, which we'll then trim to size and glue together in a particular sequence. Finally, we'll film the infinity card to upload onto a padlet using a QR code.
If you haven't previously attended an Open Day, we'll also show you our course presentation and arrange a tour of the building.

Join us for a Zine workshop in our Illustration Studios. We'll first explore what Zines are before getting hands-on and designing a small, black and white ‘foldy’ Zine. We'll create imagery using collage or by drawing directly onto the individual pages, and experiment with printing in colour and overlaying imagery. By the end of the session, you'll have created your very own Zine to take away with you.

Creative Photography Session: Exploring the Medium
Discover photography as a creative and experimental medium in this hands-on group session. Working in small teams within our state-of-the-art photography studio, you’ll collaborate on ideas before producing your own individual image.
You’ll respond to a themed photography brief and create a still life using materials inherent to the world of photography. Participants will be invited to dive into our photographic stores and facilities to source objects, enabling a hands-on, conceptual journey into the materials available to our students. Guided through professional tools and techniques, you’ll experiment collectively while developing your own personal outcome.
Each participant will produce a unique still-life photograph and leave with a finished image to add to their portfolio.

Join us for our interactive Post-Production taster session, where we'll explore the power of editing and storytelling through post-production. We'll look at how to take media through the editing, colour grading, VFX and sound design process. You'll experience our post-facilities, meet some of the course team, work with specialist software, and witness the progression of your camera media from production to the cutting room. For those who have not previously attended an Open Day, there will also be the chance for a tour of relevant facilities and a breakdown of the course and modules.
