Overview

If you’re passionate about creating games – not just playing them – and want to take your first steps toward a career in the games industry, our Foundation Degree (FdA) in Game Design and Development is the perfect starting point.

As a budding game developer, you’ll explore the art, design, and technology behind games, building the skills to bring your ideas to life. Whether your interests lie in 3D modelling, digital art, storytelling or coding, this course provides a solid foundation for you to develop your creative and technical ability.

You'll study at City of Portsmouth College, one of our partner colleges, while benefiting from the award-winning expertise of the ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿, an industry-recognised leader in games education. As a ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ student, you’ll also have access to our support and facilities, including the University Library with its multimedia software and social learning spaces.

When you graduate, you’ll have the skills to step into professional game development, or pursue further study, with the opportunity to progress to the ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ for a full degree in Computer Games Art or Computer Games Design.

Entry requirements

FdA Game Design and Development entry requirements

Typical offers

  • A levels - CDD
  • UCAS points - 80 points to include a minimum of 2 A levels, or equivalent (calculate your UCAS points)
  • T-levels – Pass (C or above in the core) - Merit
  • BTECs (Extended Diplomas) - MMP (Must be in an art, design, creative computing, or graphic arts subject.)
  • International Baccalaureate - 26 (from the IB Diploma, with a Higher Level in a relevant subject.)

Selection process

A relevant subject or experience in art, design, creative computing or graphic arts is required. Applicants without a relevant subject or experience will be asked to provide a portfolio in support of their application.

We look at more than just your grades

While we consider your grades when making an offer, we also carefully look at your circumstances and other factors to assess your potential. These include whether you live and work in the region and your personal and family circumstances which we assess using established data.

Modules

Each module on this course is worth a certain number of credits. You need to study modules worth a total of 120 credits each year.

Course costs and funding

Tuition fees

  • UK/Channel Islands and Isle of Man students – £6,355 per year (subject to annual increase)
  • EU students - £10,300 per year (including EU scholarship - subject to annual increase)
  • International students - £17,900 per year (subject to annual increase)
